Recent studies in Europe have shown that approximately 10% of the population suffers from visible lesions of the lips, cheeks, gums, tongue, or floor of the mouth. Unfortunately, this number does not include the invisible cysts, tumors, or growths under the gums or within bone.
With rising numbers of oral cancer, it is often a good practice to be familiar with the shape and color of the skin inside of one's mouth. Any sudden changes or new symptoms should be noted and be scheduled for examination.

Striving for a Difference
Dr. Sun began his career as a cancer scientist even before becoming a surgeon. In fact, he is a proud recipient of the R.L. Fowkes and L.J. Fogel Memorial Award for Excellence in Oral Pathology.
He remains an active scholar in the cutting edge of oral and facial pathology as an author of more than 15 scientific journal articles exploring numerous pathologic entities - from autoimmune diseases to tumors to blood vessel diseases.
Dr. Sun has also served as the editor of the book Surgical Management of Head and Neck Pathologies, a professional text detailing safe removal of various lesions as well as the appropriate reconstruction/repair strategies thereafter.
