Academic Training with Distinction
Dr. Sun attended the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) for both his undergraduate and graduate schools where he became a molecular biologist studying oral, head, and neck cancer.
Subsequent to his education, he completed his dental training at the Western University of Health Sciences where he graduated with multiple honors. He served as the President of national organization chapters including the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR).
He then completed his surgical/hospital residency at the UCSF-Highland Hospital Division of Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery, UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital of Oakland, and Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center where he served as the chief resident. Dr. Sun has also earned distinction as "the doctor with the greatest number of publications" even during a busy residency.
A Surgeon-Scientist
He In addition to remaining an active surgeon, Dr. Sun continues to lecture and publish on numerous topics including jaw surgery, trauma, implantology, and anesthesiology.
He also serves as the Section Editor of Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery at the College of Urgent Care Medicine and as a a scientific reviewer on several scientific journals including the World Journal of Surgical Oncology and The Permanente Journal.
As an educator, he instructs students, interns, and residents at both the University of the Pacific and Western University of Health Sciences.
