Oral-Maxillofacial Surgeons in Facial Trauma
Various specialists and surgeons can provide care for traumas to the mouth and face. However, oral-maxillofacial (OMF) surgeons are unique because only they undergo both dental and medical training to treat the jaws, mouth, and jaw joints (TMJ).
When a patient suffers trauma to the upper/lower jaws, lips, or mouth, an OMF surgeon treats with an intimate understanding of exactly how the broken teeth, gums, and joints must come together with any of the fractured bones. OMF surgeons can also repair these injuries with other required dental surgeries - such as dental implants - in mind.
As a "full-scope" OMF surgeon, Dr. Sun performs surgeries of the jaws, teeth, lips, and joints on a regular basis. He also teaches and writes on these very topics in journals, lectures, and courses.
The "Level 1" Training
Dr. Sun was trained at both highest severity Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center hospitals and is at ease managing various oral or facial traumatic injuries. He continues to serve as the consulting specialist for various maxillary, mandibular, and alveolar fractures from several hospitals in the South Bay.
He is also an oral-facial trauma expert contributor to The Laceration Course for emergency and urgent care doctors.
Daily Surgeon and Frequent Consultant
Dr. Sun treats various fractures of the upper and lower jaws, oral/facial lacerations, and displacement of teeth at both his office and nearby hospitals.
In addition, he is an expert educator of dental-facial trauma at various local and national medical conventions including those of the California and National Urgent Care Associations.
Dr. Sun also lectures regularly as a continuing education instructor in oral and facial emergencies for the California Academy of General Dentistry FellowTrack. He lectures on the topic of trauma to both dental and medical audiences.
